Online Marketing vs Intellectual Property Rights
Anything that ever goes on the Internet should be considered public and recorded, including any work you post, whether that is photography, writings or anything else.
I have serious concerns about privacy and anonymity online but I feel powerless to do anything about it so for the most part I have (professionally) decided to embrace it as an Internet marketer. I'm not happy about it, but you'd go crazy with anxiety trying to be vigilant about your online privacy.
This can be a serious issue when you are posting "intellectual property" online. The 'bots' or 'spiders' that search engines use (not to mention people) are ruthlessly efficient at finding anything linked to and making it available to anyone searching. I recommend you encode relevant and complete metadata into all pictures you put online and that you consider watermarking them as well (this can be done by digital cameras as well as photo-editing and uploading software like PhotoShop and LightRoom).
Additionally, you can reduce the risks of your photography being used against your wishes by appropriate use of robots.txt files and other methods that I will discuss in the future.
